New Albany Walking Club

The New Albany Walking Club was founded in 2003 for the purpose of promoting health through walking. The physical, mental, and social benefits derived from group workouts serve to motivate the many women and men who join our regularly scheduled group walks. The New Albany Walking Club also provides a supportive and nurturing environment for those who wish to train and compete in walking events. Through the activities of the New Albany Walking Club, it is hoped the status of walking will continue to be viewed as a viable health and athletic endeavor.

New Albany Walking Club members meet every Sunday morning at 7:30 AM. We walk along the beautiful roads and walking and bike trails throughout the New Albany community. We have members of all abilities and we always begin our training walks together. There is always someone with whom to train. Our members walk from distances of three miles to as many as twenty-three miles depending on whether or not they are training for competition. Whether you want to train for competition or just want to walk for recreation, you are always welcome.

All members receive the opportunity to train under the guidance of Dr. Phil Heit who is experienced in BOTH running and walking. Phil has been running marathons for over 34 years and has trained many individuals over the years to run in marathons. His efforts these days are devoted to walkers ONLY as it is the philosophy of the New Albany Walking Club that walkers should be training with walkers ONLY as this type of environment serves as a more supportive venue than having walkers train among runners.

Membership is open to anyone who wishes to walk with us. We welcome walkers of all abilities.
